What Botox Can and Can't Do
Botox works on lines caused by movement: the ones that show when you frown, squint or lift your brows. Magic FemTouch offers Botox and Dysport in Oak Lawn. Areas include the forehead, the frown lines between the brows, crow's feet and the lines around the lips.
Lines that stay etched in when your face is at rest often soften over repeat treatments. They may also need dermal fillers or a skin treatment like microneedling. Botox adds no volume, and it doesn't lift sagging skin. Our page on fine lines and wrinkles lays out every option.
What Happens at Your Botox Appointment
Consultation
Your provider watches how your face moves, marks the areas to treat and goes over your health history. You hear the plan and the total price first.
Before You Come In
Skip alcohol for a day or two before, since it makes bruising more likely. Keep taking prescribed medicines unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
The Injections
A very fine needle goes into a few points in each area. Most people feel quick pinches, and a single area is a 20- to 30-minute visit.
Afterward
Small bumps at the injection points fade within the hour. Most people go straight back to work.

After Your Appointment
There is little downtime. Most people go back to work the same day, and a small bruise is the most common thing to cover.

Dysport and Xeomin
Dysport is on our menu for the same four areas as Botox. It works the same way and often starts a day or two sooner. It uses its own units, so compare the total for an area rather than the unit price.

Lip Flip and Jaw Botox
A lip flip places a few units of Botox just above the upper lip. The muscle relaxes, and the lip can turn out slightly so more of it shows when you smile. It adds no volume: see lip flip vs. lip filler.
Jaw Botox, also called masseter Botox, goes into the chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw. As the muscle relaxes over the following weeks, the jawline can look slimmer.
Both are off-label uses, which means the FDA has not approved Botox for these areas. Neither is on our menu. Ask at your consultation whether either suits you.
Botox for Men
Men book Botox for the same lines: frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet. Men's facial muscles are often stronger, so they may need a larger dose for the same area.
The goal is the same for everyone: softer lines, with your face still moving the way it does. Tell your provider how much movement you want to keep.
Is Botox Safe?
Botox has been used on frown lines for decades, and most side effects are mild: a small bruise, redness or a headache that passes. Less often, a brow or eyelid can droop for a few weeks until the product wears off.
Wait, and tell your provider, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a nerve or muscle condition, had a reaction to a wrinkle relaxer before, or have an infection where you want treatment.

How many units of Botox do I need?
It depends on the area and how strong the muscle is. Label doses are about 20 units for frown lines, about 20 for the forehead and about 12 per side for crow's feet. Your provider watches how your face moves and gives you the plan, and the price, before injecting.
When will I see Botox results?
Most people notice a change within two to four days. The full effect shows at about two weeks. Your provider can check the result then and adjust an area that needs a touch more. Plan any event for at least two weeks after your visit.
What are 11 lines, and can Botox treat them?
The "11 lines" are the two vertical creases between your brows that deepen when you frown. They are one of the most common reasons people try Botox. A few injections relax the frown muscles, and the crease can soften over about two weeks.
What is a Botox lip flip?
A lip flip uses a few units of Botox along the upper lip. The muscle relaxes, and the lip can turn out slightly so more of it shows when you smile. It adds no volume and lasts about two to three months, which is shorter than on the forehead.
Will Botox make my face look frozen?
Usually not, when the dose fits the area. Your injector aims to soften the lines you point out while keeping your expressions. A lighter dose can leave more movement. Tell your injector the look you want at the consultation, and come back at two weeks if anything feels too strong or too light.
Does Botox hurt?
Most people feel a quick pinch at each injection point, and the whole thing takes a few minutes. The needle is very fine. Ask for ice or numbing cream first if needles make you nervous, and tell your provider if you want a pause.
Can I get Botox while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Botox isn't recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, because its safety hasn't been studied there. Wait until you're finished, and tell your provider about any pregnancy plans. Skin treatments like facials may be options in the meantime.

Can I get Botox and filler at the same visit?
Often, yes. Botox treats lines from movement, and filler adds volume where it has been lost, so many people use both for different areas. Your provider tells you at the consultation whether to do both the same day or space them apart.
Do you offer Xeomin?
Botox and Dysport are on our menu. Xeomin works the same way and uses about the same unit count as Botox. Ask the front desk whether it is available before your visit, and your provider can tell you which one suits you.
