Does Moxi or BBL hurt, and is it safe for my skin tone?
Is it safe for my skin tone?
Laser and light target pigment, so your skin type and recent sun exposure matter. Your provider assesses both at the consult and sets the treatment for your skin. A recent tan means waiting.
Does it hurt?
BBL feels like brief, warm snaps, similar to a rubber band. Moxi feels warm and prickly as the handpiece moves. Ask about numbing options at your consult.
How much does it cost?
Cost depends on whether your plan uses Moxi, BBL or both, and the number of sessions. It is quoted at your consult.

Moxi laser for tone and texture
Moxi is a gentle laser skin resurfacing treatment. It is used for early sun damage, dullness and uneven texture. It is sometimes called a laser facial.
After a session, your skin is pink and warm. For a few days it may feel like fine sandpaper as treated skin flakes away. Plans are a short series, a few weeks apart.

BBL laser for brown spots and redness
BBL stands for BroadBand Light. It is a type of IPL, or intense pulsed light. It targets brown spots, sun damage and redness. It is also called a BBL photofacial or an IPL photofacial.
Treated brown spots darken for a few days, then flake off over about a week. Here, BBL refers to a skin treatment. It is unrelated to the cosmetic surgery that shares the abbreviation.

“I’ve been going to Magic Femtouch for a couple years and it’s honestly my favorite med spa.”
When to start Moxi or BBL
Laser and light treatments require skin without recent sun exposure. Fall through spring is the most practical time for a series. Treated skin must be protected from the sun between sessions.
Apply sunscreen daily during your series. A recent tan means waiting before your first session.

Moxi vs BBL vs chemical peels
All three treat sun damage and uneven tone, each by a different mechanism.

Who should wait before Moxi or BBL
Tell your provider before treatment, and wait, if any of these apply:
- You have a tan or a sunburn, or used self-tanner in the last two weeks.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You take a medication that causes sun sensitivity, or took isotretinoin in the last six months.
- You have an active cold sore or rash in the treatment area.
Melasma requires extra caution, because light and heat can darken it. See the gentler options for melasma.
Moxi and BBL aftercare
- Apply SPF 30 or higher daily, and avoid direct sun while your skin heals.
- Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Avoid retinol and exfoliating acids until your provider approves them.
- Allow dark spots and rough skin to flake off naturally. Do not pick or scrub.
- Makeup can usually be applied the next day.
Call us if you notice blisters, crusting or redness that worsens after the first day.

Questions
Moxi and BBL questions
Is BBL the same as IPL?
BBL is a type of IPL, or intense pulsed light. It uses broad-spectrum light to target brown spots and redness. The name stands for BroadBand Light.
Is BBL the same as a Brazilian butt lift?
No. At a med spa, BBL means BroadBand Light, a light treatment for the skin. It involves no surgery and no needles.
How much downtime is there after Moxi?
Skin is pink and warm for a few hours. For a few days it may feel rough, like fine sandpaper, as treated skin flakes away. Most people can wear makeup the next day.
Can you do Moxi and BBL together?
Some plans combine them in one visit, one after the other. This treats spots, redness and texture in the same session. Ask at your skin assessment whether that suits your skin.
How many Moxi or BBL sessions will I need?
Most plans are a short series, a few weeks apart. Your provider recommends the number at the consult. Many people schedule one maintenance session a year after that to address new sun damage.
Does BBL hurt?
Most people describe each pulse as a brief, warm snap, similar to a rubber band. Areas over bone are more sensitive. The warmth fades within a few hours.
Can Moxi help with melasma?
Melasma requires a careful plan, because heat and light can darken it. Your provider determines whether a gentle setting, a mild peel or another option suits your skin. Daily sunscreen is as important as any treatment.
